Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
The Calcutta High Court has granted temporary relief to Trinamool leader and candidate Sujit Basu in connection with repeated summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate in a recruitment corruption case. The court observed that given the ongoing elections, he would not be required to appear immediately.
However, the court directed that Basu must appear in person before the ED on May 1 at 10:30 am. The order made it clear that he cannot send a representative in his place and must comply with the summons directly.
During the hearing, Basu’s counsel argued that his name was not included in the earlier charge sheet and alleged that repeated summons during the election period were unnecessary. The ED, however, maintained that Basu had not been cooperating despite multiple notices. The court granted limited relief while setting a clear date for his appearance.
